Shimin Chen is a research scientist at Intel Research Pittsburgh. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University in 2005, and his B.E. and M.E. from Tsinghua University in China in 1997 and 1999.
Chen’s research interests include database systems, computer architecture, operating systems, and distributed systems. His Ph.D. work focused on redesigning core data structures and algorithms in database systems in light of modern computer architecture features, such as CPU cache prefetching. After joining Intel Research Pittsburgh in December 2005, he has been actively working on two projects that focus on exploiting many-core processors for software performance and reliability: Log Based Architectures (LBA) and Shared Caching. Dr. Chen received a Microsoft Fellowship in 2002-2003, and won a best-paper award in ICDE 2004.
