Phillip B. Gibbons

Phillip B. Gibbons is a Principal Research Scientist at Intel Research Pittsburgh. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989. He joined Intel Research in 2001 after 11 years at (AT&T and Lucent) Bell Laboratories. Gibbons has published nearly 100 papers, served on over 35 international program committees, and holds 17 U.S. patents. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of the ACM and the IEEE Transactions on Computing. He has served as program chair/co-chair/vice-chair for the SPAA, SenSys, IPSN, ICDE, and DCOSS conferences. Gibbons is an Adjunct Professor in the Computer Science Departments at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. He is a Fellow of the ACM, cited for contributions to parallel computing, databases, and sensor networks.

Gibbons’ current work focuses on the Log-Based Architectures project (for which he serves as co-PI). He is also active to a lesser extent in the Parallel Programming Models, Reliable Email, ISADS, and Dynamic Physical Rendering projects.
